fife & plectrum, a new flute and harpsichord duo whose repertoire spans from seldom-heard gems of the eighteenth century to contemporary works for the ensemble, presents a musical journey from darkness to light.
The program begins with enigmatic, richly expressive sonatas—one in the Italian style and the other in the French—by Giaccobe Cervetto and Michel Blavet. The centerpiece of the program is modern composer Robert Starer's mournful Yizkor, out of which emerges a jovial Anima Aeterna; the concert concludes with one of W.F. Bach's most charming and rarely-heard works for flute.
The concert is free and donations are kindly accepted.
